Can you spell "ischemic colitis?"
Last Monday night, Cindy and I were out on "date night", our usual weekly event of exploring local cuisine while having a chance to keep in touch with each other. The bistek ranchero (a Mexican beef dish) was excellent.
The next morning - after I had taken my morning walk, read the paper and finished the second cup of coffee, my guts turned inside out. I rode out the day, trying to handle the pain while making frequent trips to the bathroom. Food poisoning - that's all.
But by Wednesday morning, it was time to visit the Emergency Room. Between the blood and the unceasing pain, I sensed it might be more than food poisoning.
It was - it was ischemic colitis, a condition where the blood is cut off from a part of the colon. They stuck on IV in my arm, sent me to a room and took care of me. Nothing but water, fruit juice and jello.
But, I was bounced yesterday (Sunday), in time to see the Super Bowl.
Life is good.
