I have a long holiday weekend stretching in front of me.
This is a quiz. What reader can tell me the two holidays celebrated back to back each year on these dates in Việt Nam?
But, I intend to be “productive.” No, I don’t mean I intend to do lesson planning – I intend to go riding with Mr. Cu again, and take another short jaunt on Sunday with students.
Hard work, eh? But somebody has to do it.
April 30 is the "Liberation of Saigon" or many ppl call it the "Fall of Saigon". And May 1st is International Workers' Day. I think the city of Hue has its own "liberation" day which was March 26th (?)
Have a great weekend.

Close, but not quite. Both ThinkingVN and Triet betray thier southern backgrounds. (grin)
April 30th is officially Reunification Day, but yes - it is celebrated on the day Saigon was liberated, essentially marking the end of the Second Indochina War.
May 1st is indeed International Worker's Day - may Day to most of us.
But, Thinking VN gets a plus mark - March 26th indeed marks the liberation of Hue in 1975. Last year was the 30th anniversary and it was bid deal here in Hue - big celebration in the football stadium and fireworks. I didn't hear a peep this year. Triet also gets a plus mark because March 26th is indeed Pioneer Youth Day, and the students usually get the day off to go camping.
